SES Consulting specialises in undertaking socio-economic surveys and resettlement planning primarily for the mining industry. Both these areas of expertise rely heavily on gathering highly reliable socio-economic data on communities and households impacted by mining. Roughly 10 years ago we started automating socio-economic household surveys, and tested a number of existing automated survey platforms. Very few of which had the functionality to automate scientific questionnaires and gather data offline and in remote places.
In 2016 we started using Surveya’s survey platform, which not only worked offline, but also enabled our fieldworkers to collect GPS coordinates, photographs, and signatures. Since then, Surveya has added some really great features that allow us to create tables with numerous rows and columns, summing and calculation questions, and their reporting processes have greatly improved. We can now view summary reports of the data, run basic data queries, and view individual copies of completed questionnaires, both of which can be viewed in PDF, Excel or Word. The system is also really easy to use, which reduces the time and costs required to train fieldworkers.
If we were asked why we use Surveya? We would also have to mention it is because they provide incredible technical support. If we have a technical glitch we can call them directly to resolve it.
In the past few years we have completed more than 25 surveys using Surveya’s mobile application, and our largest project included surveying 345 households with an automated questionnaire comprising 150 questions, which we completed in a total of just 10 days. We have surely tested this survey software, and are pleased with the results.
